Welcome

Dear Friends,

Thank you for visiting my website and for the opportunity to tell you why I’m running to stay on the Bernalillo County Commission.  First, as your commissioner, I know we must be more aggressive in reviving our economy and bringing jobs to New Mexico and our district.

On the Bernalillo County Commission, I have taken the lead in refocusing our economic development resources on our local businesses to help them succeed and grow. We are investing in infrastructure improvements that keep us economically competitive.

In this difficult economy, I know it is essential that taxpayer dollars are used wisely. That means getting rid of fraud and abuse that siphon money from crucial public services.  It also means applying tough new standards to economic development incentives and guaranteeing high-wage, sustainable  jobs that stay in Bernalillo County.

Additionally, we must attack corruption and root out nepotism.  In my first year on the Commission, I sponsored the first comprehensive ethics reform in 25 years as the first step in creating a more responsive, transparent County government.  But that does not go far enough, and in the coming months I will be working to revise County personnel policies to prohibit nepotism and ensure equal access to all County jobs.  We will provide internet access to County records and information to create a truly open and transparent government.

These are tough times – we all know that.  The only way forward is to focus on the basics: rebuilding our economy by helping local business, demanding accountability for taxpayer dollars, protecting our natural resources, and drawing on our people and our quality of life.

District 3 has been my home for more than 40 years.  Eric and I chose to raise our children in the same neighborhood where I grew up, close to my parents and extended family.  I care deeply about the issues facing our community and will continue to work hard to find thoughtful, innovative solutions.  I always welcome your input, comments, and suggestions and ask for your vote on November 2nd.

Sincerely,

Maggie Hart Stebbins
County Commissioner, District 3
