About

Maggie Hart Stebbins has deep roots in District 3.

Growing up in Albuquerque, Maggie attended Montezuma Elementary, Our Lady of Fatima, and Albuquerque Academy. During her summers at home, she worked with her brothers and sisters running Hart Summer Day Camp, a sports and arts program for local youth.  After high school, Maggie left for Harvard, graduating in 1984 as the school’s top athlete.

Maggie’s work in public policy started in Washington, D.C., working for the U.S. House of Representatives.  In 1989, She married U.S. Army Captain Eric Stebbins.

In 1993, Eric and Maggie returned to New Mexico where she was a stay-at-home mom until her youngest child started school. She remained active in our community, volunteering in her children’s schools and serving on several non-profit and local government boards.

Maggie’s unwavering interest in public policy led her to the N.M. House of Representatives. There, she worked with legislators on important issues including economic development, water policy, domestic violence prevention, and tax reform. In 2002, she joined the Mid Region Council of Government to work on public transportation, water conservation, and homeland security.

She has helped refocus the County’s economic development resources on local businesses and worked with the jail and the City of Albuquerque to better protect women who are released from custody.   As Vice Chair of the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Utility Authority, she has supported innovative strategies to protect the area’s precious water supply.
